Where the Wildflowers Are is a one-of-a-kind, original soft pastel painting inspired by the romantic, sunlit style of my teacher and mentor, Valerie McKeehan. With each soft, deliberate stroke, this piece captures the wild grace of sunlit blooms swaying freely in the breeze—untamed, unnoticed, and deeply alive.
At first glance, these wildflowers may seem like weeds. But look again. They bloom without permission. They grow without praise. And they remind us of who we once were…barefoot and curious, chasing the sun with nothing but wonder in our hands.
This painting carries the spirit of those barefoot summers and daydream afternoons. I see my younger self in it, hair tied back with a silk ribbon, no worry in the world. But I also see myself now: in overalls, holding hands with my husband, chasing my boys through tall grass. It’s a memory I’m still living, holding tight to every second. Especially the ones where wildflowers are placed into my hands by my children.
Where the Wildflowers Are is soft yet bold, delicate yet deeply rooted. It was painted to live somewhere you rest your eyes often…a mantle next to a vase of fresh blooms, or framed in a sunlit room where the light catches it just right.
