I used to call the desert brown, dry, dusty…something to escape, not embrace. I longed to paint luscious green trees and wildflower fields. Cactus didn’t feel like “me.” I tried to make it painterly, to fit my style, and for the longest time... I thought I had failed.
Where the Light Stays changed that. This is the first desert painting I’ve created that I truly love.
Something shifted this past winter. Arizona-my home-showed me a softer side. I spent more time outside with my little ones. They taught me how to stay present, to bloom exactly where I am. To them, this place is beautiful simply because it’s here-the only home they’ve ever known.
We wandered desert trails near our house and saw what I’d missed before: the way light plays off red cliffs at sunset, the surprise of teal and lavender tucked into the earth, the quiet rhythm of a landscape shaped by sun and moon.
Painted in soft pastels on archival sanded paper, this 9x12” original is full of color and contrast…rich siennas, soft violets, cool cactus greens. Framed or floated, it brings a grounded, glowing warmth to any space. Signed on the back and shipped with a stamped certificate of authenticity.
